Ribwort. View of the leaves and flowers of the ribwort, or English plantain (Plantago lanceolata). Poultices made from the crushed leaves of this plant have been used medicinally for centuries as dressing for wounds, where it helps to slow blood loss and prevent bruising. Historical records also praise its treatment of the venomous bites of spiders and snakes, although these claims are not backed up by scientific studies. The plant is very similar to the greater plantain (Plantago major), with which it shares its properties and uses.
