An Interesting Special Work Layout. The accompanying illustration presents a view of a car barnlayout of the tongue-switch type manufactured by the Indianap-olis Switch & Frog Co., Springfield, O. This type of specialwork is known as built-up construction. All parts are made ofsteel T-rail which are securely bolted together and filled in, form-ing a particularly rigid type of construction, adapted for use in. The tongue switches are constructed in a very durable manner,being guarded with a full section of rail which is also extendedfor a distance of eight feet beyond the switch point. The switch tongues are manufactured ofa high grade of hammered open-hearth steel and when used inconnection wth passing switches or turnouts, are provided withan automatic throwing device.
