This illustration dates to around 1989. It shows the legendary Lorelei. The cliff in Germany is 433 feet high and overlooks dangerous narrows of the Rhine, about midway between Coblenz and Bingen. Heine's poem Die Lorelei tells the legend of a fairy who lived here and lured saiors to their death by her singing. Another legend places the Nibelungs' hoard here.
