Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod personnel, along with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Research Engineer Amy Kukulya, roll ‘Polaris’, a long-range autonomous underwater vehicle developed by WHOI, toward a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter in Falmouth, Mass., Thursday, April 15, 2021. WHOI partnered with the Coast Guard in order to safely deploy the submersible, which is capable of rapid response to an environmental threat and can measure the chemical and physical properties of water in remote and hard-to-reach regions such as an oil spill in ice-covered waters.
