The keg is then droppeddown over the post so that the shoulder, formedby cutting away the wood, will rest under theupper side of the keg, in which the smallersquare hole has been cut. Bird-houses of an infinite variety of styles canbe made by any handy boy. The followingdirections for pigeon-cotes will serve for these,except that the bird-boxes will be smaller, andperches will be more appropriate than platformsfor the birds to alight upon. FIG. I. In Fig. 5 a cote with three holes isshown that is easily made from thin boards. It may measure 30 inches long, 9 inches wide,and 12 inches high at the back, while at thefront the board with the holes cut in it may be9 inches wide, with the holes 5 inches high and4 inches wide.
