Spaza and soft drinks store next door to each other in the ground floor of a maisonette, Langa Township, Cape Town, South Africa
Here, next door to each other in the ground floor premises of a breeze block maisonette, we see further examples of township enterprise and self sufficiency. A spaza shop serves everyday food items to two young boys standing at the high counter. Next door, a shop serves bottles of soft drinks and snack foods to a person standing at a glass front fridge counter and holding a loaf in one hand. Both are protected by roller shutter security, when closed. Of interest, two men prepare potatoes on the tarmac area in front of the shops. One man sits and peals, while the other, standing, hand operates a chipping machine, the sliced chips falling into a plastic drum below the chipper.
