NEWPORT, (Aug. 16, 2018) Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Midshipman 1st Class Robert A. Papp of York, Maine, a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, virtually cons a ship at sea during the 2018 NROTC National Shiphandler of the Year competition. The three-day event at Surface Warfare Officers School uses the Naval Seamanship and Shiphandling Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) simulators for virtual reality conning and ship driving scenarios. More than 15 midshipmen from NROTC units across the country competed to be named Shiphandler of the Year.
