Slough, Berkshire, UK. 9th November, 2020. The old Datchet Road bridge across the M4 is to be demolished and a new bridge put in place over the M4 as part of the M4 Smart Motorway upgrade. The building of the new bridge is almost complete. There is much controversy over Smart Motorways as 35 people have been killed on Smart Motorways in the UK over the past five years. Many local resisdents won't be using the M4 once the Smart Motorway becomes operational due to safety concerns as the hard shoulder will be removed and replaced with only intermittent emergency areas instead.
