The latter is composed ofa framework of seven cartilages, which surround, and to whichare attached its internal constructions (Fig. i). The Activities of the Vocal Cords. The vocal cords, which are the reeds or vibrators of the voice,are situated inside the larynx. They are attached in front tothe inner frontal surface of the thyroid cartilage, and behind,,to the two arytenoid cartilages (Fig. i, c). In inhalation thefree edges of the vocal cords lie back towards the lateral innerwall of the thyroid cartilage, advancing slightly in exhalation(Fig. I, b).
