Prolapsing haemorrhoids (piles) around the anus of a 48 year old man. Piles are common, particularly during pregnancy due to extra pressure on the veins in the anus. Some people have a congenital weakness of these veins. Mild cases are controlled by drinking plenty of fluids and a high-fibre diet. Severe cases are treated by surgery.
