The Consolidated TractionCompany, of New Jersey, has also been making use of thejoint in its new construction, and the Twin City Rapid Falk Cast-Welded Rail Joints. The joint is by far the most troublesome feature of trackconstruction, and many efforts have been made to over-come the difficulties due to this cause. One of the most. FIG. Thiscompany makes a cast-welded joint, and the process whichit follows is illustrated herewith. The system, althoughsomewhat novel in the Eastern States, has been adoptedwith great success in a number of Western cities. InSt. Louis the cast-welded joints have stood the testof great extremes in temperatures ranging from over100 to 20 degrees below zero. The result has been sosatisfactory that this system of joints will be applied to theentire 13 miles of track on Easton Avenue as well as onother lines in the city. It is claimed that the unionbetween the rails is so nearly perfect that it is difficult todetect the joints. It is worthy of note in this connectionthat several miles of the St. Louis track are laid on coun-try roads, where the rails are only imperfectly coveredwith earth; yet no trouble has been experienced with the
