A lone hiker enjoys the early fall color lining Smugglers' Notch on VT 108, between Stowe and Jeffersonville, Vermont.


A hiker explores the Smugglers' Cave area at the top of Smugglers' Notch, the highlight of Vermpnt State Highway 108. The area comprises a huge boulder field with trees adding grace notes. From Wikipedia: ..."a narrow notch (mountain pass) running adjacent to Sterling Mountain, which smugglers used many years ago. Smugglers' Notch is nicknamed Smuggs. It consists of three mountains: Morse Mountain, Madonna and Sterling Mountains.
