A Yakka plant on Dutchman's Stern, Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

The Yakka, or Xanthorrhoea is a genus of flowering plants native to Australia and a member of family Xanthorrhoeaceae. They are monocots, part of order the Asparagales which includes the hyacinth. The stems grow tall as the previous year's growth is kept as a stump. These stumps eventually turn black and the tallest can be several feet high. Some Australians call them "Black Boys" because of their size and colour. Dutchman's Stern gets its name because in profile it looks like a galleon. There are a few waymarked routes to the summit and around the hill. In the foreground is a yakka plant.
