In 1856, the original of this sketch came to theIrairie State and operated a farm south of Rock-ford for three and a half years, at the expirationof which time he purchased the place on which heat present resides. His estate includes one hun-dred .and eighty acres, and is veiy valuable on ac-count of its close location to the citj^, being onlyone mile and a half from the city limits. Hisplace is imiiroved with good buildings .and theland so cultivated as to bring him in handsomereturns. In 1855, Miss Deborah Keunard became the wifeof our subject. The daughter married FredBrown, by whom she has three children: Lester,Clinton and P^rnest. Lester Halsted marriedLouisa Foltz. Our subject and his wife are mem-bers in good standing of the Second Congrega-tional Church, and are widely known and resfiectedthroughout their community.
