Old Salem has restored house that were built as long ago as the 1700s. The Miksch House was the first family house in Salem. It was occupied by Johann Matthaeus Miksch and his wife, Maria Christina Henrietta Petermann. They had a small shop in their house that sold candles, tobacco, and other products.
