The Paterson Memorial Monument 1804 is a tall monument at Monument Point on the banks of the kanamaluka / River Tamar in Georgetown of Tasmania, Australia. The monument marks the landing where army Lieutenant-Colonel Paterson arrived from his ship, HMAS Buffalo and took possession of Northern Tasmania by raising the English Union flag in the name of King George III of England. Marking the historic occasion, his ship fired a salute making George Town the first European settlement in the north and one of the first in Australia.
