() This is an entirely new and distinct class of Begonias, being rayed and striped. Nearly all the colors common to the older varieties, and in addition a rich chrome- yellow, are comprised in this new class, and the flowers are marked or striped, after the manner of a Carnation, with a great variety of pleasing shades of white, yellow and red, which particularly is apparent even in the flower- buds. Splendid new hybrid, large flowering, be- longing to the class of French spotted or dotted Gloxinias, and to the very finest of which it will, in respect both to size and beauty of flower, form a worthy companion. Its distinguishing characteristics are enormous blooms, three to four inches across, with six or seven divisions, and a large, richly-veined throat of deep violet red, pass- ing into a beautiful indigo toward the orifice, this color gradually disappears and the pure white outer ground is marked with innumerable dark blue dots. This beautiful new Mignonette grows only about six inches high, and is remarkable for its perfectly regular, pyramidal habit, and its elegant, beautifully formed spikes are profusely covered with brilliant red flowers; the flowers are larger and of a brighter red than those of the old Victoria Mignonette, and they contrast effect- ively with its dark, glossy green foliage.
