Part of the Byker Wall, Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England, UK.

Designed by Swedish architect Ralph Erskine to replace terraced homes which were demolished in the 1960s. Built between 1973 and 1978, it was one of the first projects of its type to provide large scale housing near a city centre. It covers an area of 200 acres and provides homes to 9000 people. The snaking northern facade wall shields the landscaped and gardened area to the south of it from wind and road noise. It has received the Civic Trust Award, the Eternit Award, the Ambrose Congreve Award for housing in 1980, and the Veronica Rudge Green Prize for urban design from "Harvard University" in the United States. It is now a Grade II structure.
