Fort George, Ardesier, Invernesshire, UK 9th Aug, 2014. Parade of re-enactors soldier at the Scottish Homecoming Event. Celebration of the Centuries at Fort George with living history camps outlining major periods in Scotland's past. Historical camps feature Picts, Jacobites, and soldiers through the ages.
Set in one of the finest military fortifications in Europe, the flagship event of Historic Scotland’s event calendar celebrates over two thousand years of Scottish history. Once again the Forl came to life as over two hundred and fifty performers depicted centuries of history from Picts and Romans, through Viking, Medieval, Renaissance, Reformation and Jacobite eras to World War I and II. The Celebration of the Centuries returned on Saturday and Sunday, August 9-10 as part of Historic Scotland’s Homecoming 2014 activities. Lorna Ewan, Historic Scotland’s head of visitor experience, said: “Celebration of the Centuries is one of our biggest and most spectacular events and Fort George makes for an impressive backdrop for an event spanning 2,000 years of history. “This year, we are placing particular emphasis on key anniversaries in 2014 – the Battle of Bannockburn, the outbreak of WWI and D-Day. Opening with a spectacular parade of all the performers, visitors were be able to explore living history camps, watch dramatic presentations and experience the music and dancing of the 1940s.
