BREAST SELF EXAMINATION, ILLUS.
Women can screen for breast cancer by examining their own breasts searching for a growth or lesion. The first step is to assess the global aspect of the breasts which should be symmetrical. The next step is to search for an enlarged node in the armpits. The supine position is necessary to correctly palpate each breast with small rotating movements of the fingers searching for a nodule. Finally, each nipple should be pressed to see if any fluid is exuded, in which case it is advisable to consult a doctor.
