The hurricane is at left, with a deep swirl of cloud and a characteristic central 'eye'. The hurricane is seen over the Gulf of Mexico, with the Florida Peninsula to the right, Cuba at bottom right and the Yucatan Peninsula at bottom left. Hurricane Andrew reached sustained wind speeds in excess of 230 km/h and caused about $2 billion in damage in Florida and Louisiana. The data for this image were gathered by the GOES-7 weather satellite on 24 August 1992.
