This provides for pay- ment of the dividends due employees under a profit-sharing plan, not in cash but in the company's stock. For illus- tration, one may take a concern closely allied to florists, the Lord & Burnham Co., which put such a plan in force January 1. Under the plan of this greenhouse building company the profits of the com- pany for the year, after deduction of seven per cent on the capital employed in the business, will be divided, half to the company and half to the em- ployees. Each of the latter will receive a share in the same ratio to the employees' half of the profits as his year's wages bear to the total annual pay roll of the company. This sum is not to be paid the employee, but credited him on the books of the company. There it will draw four per cent until there is a suf- ficient sum to purchase a whole share of common stock in the Lord & Burnham Co. The employee then has received, not so much cash, but a stock interest in the company for which he works. Profit Saving. The advantages in this sort of plan have been pointed out by a widely known and well posted man of business in the following terms; "Many profit-sharing plans have divided profits with employees on a cash basis and turned the money over to the employees every so often, usually once a year.
