St Davids Shopping Centre, Swansea, Wales just never happened. Built in 1982 by Swansea City Council and partners in red brick as the City continued to attempt to fill the holes left in it's Centre by the Luftwaffe it remains a monument to the unwanted. Very few of the units were ever occupied and those that remain open are on the very periphery of the development. The first floor is now closed completely and the interior of the ground floor has a ghetto-like feel about it. Initially the empty units were boarded over and Community artists employed to paint them with lively scenes in a vain attempt to brighten the emptiness and attract tenants. This pic is a fragment of one of these art works with subsequent grafittied addition.
