Engraving of Emancipist Charles Sumner, (6th January, 1811 - 11th March, 1874) was an outspoken advocate of slaves' rights. He argued strongly for their complete freedom and rights of citizenship. Sumner also advocated education and prison reform. Original engraving by John Buttre, circa 1866.
