[TLC (Winnem 1974): norstictic acid.] Thallus corticolous, adnate, pale grey to grey-green. Lobes 0'5-0'8 cm broad, deeply divided, margins ascending, crenate, ciliate, cilia up to 2*5 mm long. Upper side distinctly maculate. Medulla white. Underside smooth or somewhat rugose, medium to dark brown, rarely with a white mottled marginal zone, rhizines slender, scattered almost to the margins. Soralia and isidia absent. Apothecia numerous, marginal and submarginal, often eccentrically orientated on semitubular stipes, disc 0*5—1
