Fingerprint types. 19th-century artwork showing three of the fingerprint types (arch, loop and whorl) identified by British scientist Francis Galton (1822-1911), who wrote on the subject from 1888. This artwork is from 'Mysteries of Police and Crime' (1898) by the British crime historian Major Arthur Griffiths (1838-1908), Inspector of Her Majesty's Prisons and deputy governor of Millbank and Wormwood Scrubs.
