Brent geese in flight. These are pale-bellied Brent geese (Branta bernicla hrota), flying over a frozen salt marsh. This goose, which has several subspecies, is native to the Arctic. It migrates south in the winter, inhabiting coastal areas and feeding on eel-grass and sea lettuce. These birds, from Svalbard, were photographed near the island of Lindisfarne, Northumberland, UK.
