Stone tool, Gran Dolina. Example of the stone tools found next to human fossils in level TD6 of the Gran Dolina site. The technique used for the manufacturing of this type of stone tool was to hit a piece of stone a few times until the desired surface was achieved. To date, nearly 200 stone tools have been found in Gran Dolina. Gran Dolina is one of several archaeological sites in Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain, that have been studied on and off over the past century, leading to a massive advancement in the understanding of human evolution. In 2000, Sierra de Atapuerca was made a world heritage site by UNESCO.
