Childhood portrait of Sophia Perovskaya, 1860s. Sophia Perovskaya (1853-1881) was a Russian revolutionary and a member of Narodnaya Volya (People's Will), the terrorist organisation responsible for the assassination of Tsar Alexander II on 1st March 1881. Actively involved in planning the assassination, she was arrested nine days afterwards and was executed by hanging. Found in the collection of the State Museum of History, Moscow.
