Hadrian's Villa was the luxurious retreat of Emperor Hadrian in Tibur (today: Tivoli). It was built in the 2nd century AD as a home for the emperor and his court. The Temple of Venus is a copy of the Greek tholos that guarded the original Aphrodite of Knidos by Praxiteles. The temple is in the Doric order. The villa was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
