Radiation detection. Geiger counter detecting a source of Caesium-137 radiation. It is showing a reading of 500 counts per second. This radioactive isotope is extremely toxic to humans, even in minute amounts, and remains so for 300 years. Small amounts of caesium-137 have been released into the environment during the testing of nuclear weapons and by the Chernobyl disaster.
