The publicly owned forest reserves of Trinidad amount to over 328,000 acres or 26 percent of the land area. From these forests 3,450,100 cubic feet of timber, 904,700 cubic feet of fine wood, and 227,700 cubic feet of other split wood were cut in 1959. The total sawtimber cut from all lands amounts to million board feet. Nearly all of this was consumed locally. An addi- tional 1,505,000 cubic feet of coniferous tim- ber, mostly from British Honduras, was im- ported. A pressure treating plant is in operation in Port of Spain using Wolman salts as a pre-.
