Vanhakirkko (Old church) building in Ruttopuisto (Plague park)lit for the Forces of Light event, Helsinki, Finland

Vanhakirkko is originally a temporary church built in 1826 and is now the oldest church in Helsinki. It was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel. The church is surrounded by a park called Vanha kirkkopuisto (Old Church park) or sometimes Ruttopuisto (Plague park). The park is an old cemetary that was used for mass burials of plague victims in 1710 and this is the source for the Ruttopuisto (Plague park) naming. The cemetary itself originates from the middle ages.
