Fawley power station, Hampshire, UK. View down the main body of Fawley power station, which houses the generators (blue). This power station is powered by heavy fuel oil. It was built in the 1960s and began operation as a 2000 megawatt (MW) power station with four 500 MW generating units. Two closed in the 1990s and the station now has the ability to produce 1000 MW of power, which is enough to meet the needs of around 1 million people. For a close-up of one of the generators see image T190/0517.
