Richards, and a High Priest Jan. 12, 1924, by John his early youth he took anactive part in mutual improvementwork, acting as secretary, and later aspresident of the Vernon Y. M. M. In May, 1916, he was sustainedas superintendent of the Vernon Sun-day school, which position he held un-til December, 1917, when he left for ashort term mission, on which he la- .T^fll^^; yiv. bored in and around Phoenix, Arizona,under the direction of the stake presi-dency of the Maricopa Stake. Afterhis return home, he again acted inthe superintendency of the Sundayschool, and in April, 1924, he wasordained a Bishop by Apostle JosephF. Smith, jun., and set apart to pre-side over the Vernon Ward, whichposition he still holds. In 1906 (), he married Agnes M. Larson inthe Salt Lake Temple, which unionhas been blessed with eight children,viz., Deverial J., Merrill J. (deceased),Agnes Arline, Florence E., Marvin E.,Emma Carol, Kenneth J., and RalphVernald.
