Archangel to the Book of Revelation, the Archangel Michael conquered the devil in the form of a dragon. For such a violent theme, the gracefulness of this figure of the archangel is rather remarkable. He almost seems as if he is a ballet dancer. Such elegance is characteristic of late 17th-century Flemish Baroque art. The year 1692 is inscribed on a palm frond just belowthe archangel’s navel.
