An early 20th century view of the Vale of Avoca in County Wicklow, Ireland. The Avoca area has been associated with its copper mines (visible on the left balk of the on the River Avoca for many years. The valley has also been celebrated by Thomas Moore in the song "The Meeting of the Waters" derived from the meeting of the Avonmore and Avonbeg rivers, about 3 kilometres from the village of Avoca.
This Photo Chrome image was shot around 1900. In the interests of transparency (no pun intended) the image has been cleaned, sharpened and enhanced. The original sky was bleached out and a new sky has been carefully added.
