Simple poultices and fomentations, withthe dressings of aromatic wine, and an aqueous solution of opium, when indicatedby the pain ; the black and yellow wash, or a solution of bichloride of mercury, arethe best local applications that can be used, except the cauterizations, as beforementioned. As the state of the system may influence the forms which chancres are liable totake on, this cannot be too soon attended to.
