Most of the squarepacking will stand slight hammering (up to J in. outof size) to make a good fit. Rubber packing does notgive satisfactory service in the stuffing boxes of cen-trifugals. There is not enough room for the elasticityof rubber to act, and it soon burns if in contact withthe shaft. The best way isto cut rings that will fit the shaft exactly.
