Caudal fin rounded in females and young, with dorsal and ventral prolongations in adult males. Lateral spot, in males also a Bar 2 spot, pectoral spot, abdominal stripes, in females also midventral stripe present. Caudal spot in females and young. Bars faint. No chest blotch. Dorsal fin not clearly darkened anteriorly. Caudal fin with cross-stripes at least dqrsally. (114 specimens of both sexes, — mm SL.) Etymology, brevis (Lat. adj.), short (compared to other Uaupes species of this ge- nus). Material Holotype. IRSNB (Types) 570 - 6, mm. Brasil (Amazonas), Lago Penera, small igara- pe (0°01'N 67°21 'W). Leg. S. M. le roi Leopold de Belgique & Gosse (IMA 1967: Sta. 192)..
