Statue of Scottish King Robert the Bruce at Stirling Castle in Scotland
Editorial use only. This statue of Scottish King Robert the Bruce stands at the entrance to Stirling Castle in Stirling Scotland to commemorate the Battle of Bannockburn. The plinth has the inscription King Robert the Bruce June 24 1314 this being the date of the victory at Bannockburn south of Stirling over a substantial English army. This victory helped to establish Robert the Bruce as the king governing an independent Scotland. He lived until 1329 at Cardross.
