From the partial contraction of the room, by means ofof these screens, the proportion is better preserved. The whole,in its present state, was executed by the late Mr. HoUand, thearchitect, under his Lordships directions, and is painted white— which colour, being balanced by the various hues of thebindings of the books, gives the entire room a gay and cheerfulappearance. In the day time, ample light is aflTorded by means of five largewindows, which are seen on the left side of the house, in the ex-terior view of it.
