A listed building, the Victoria Bridge was completed in 1838, originally for the Durham Junction Railway. The engineer was T. E. Harrison and the design was based upon that of the Roman Alcántara Bridge in Spain. At the time of writing it was a part of the mothballed Leamside Line, which parallels the east coast mainline.
