Northamptonshire, UK, 10 August 2015. A Perseid meteor (shooting star). These meteors appear in mid August each year, 2015 being especially favourable because the event takes place close to new Moon, when skies are at their darkest, allowing more meteors to be seen. The meteors are tiny particles of space dust that burn up in the upper atmosphere. The meteor was moving from upper right to lower left, and lasted only a fraction of a second.
