On Monday 29th September 2014, an underground railway station is barricaded as part of the second night of a pro-democracy sit-in known as "Occupy Central". A sign reads "Sorry for the inconvenience, but we need true democracy". The mood was calm and celebratory, whereas the night before, in the Admiralty district, protestors faced tear gas, pepper spray and batons from police in full riot gear. The Occupy Central civil disobedience movement began in response to China's decision to allow only Beijing-vetted candidates to stand in the city's 2017 election for the top civil position of chief executive. The protestors also seek the resignation of Hong Kong's current chief executive, Leung.
