The hotel, a historical site for the world of music, will be transformed into 111 units of affordable housing to welcome homeless people; The photo for the cover of The Doors' fifth album was taken at the location The AIDS Healthcare Foundation purchased the hotel property, located at 1246 Hope Street, for $ million in early December. The foundation's plans are to convert the building into 111 units of affordable housing to receive people rescued from the streets. AHF purchased the destroyed property for its Affordable Housing Foundation, saving the historic hotel from demolition. Each unit will cost approximately $107,207. In the announcement, it was given by the drummer of the group The Doors, John Densmore, 79 years old; and the photographer Henry Diltz, author of the iconic photo on the cover of the album published in February 1970. “People who work in the city can't afford to live in the city, so the Morrison Hotel will now be a solution to that problem,” Densmore said. The Morrison Hotel building, for single occupancy, was built in 1914. The Doors made the hotel's façade famous when band members snuck in while the employee was busy. Diltz quickly snapped a series of photos in front of the letters “Morrison Hotel,” with singer Jim Morrison front and center in the window.
