Venus of Dolni Vestonice, Stone Age. Close-up of the mask or head of the Venus of Dolni Vestonice figurine. The whole object is an 11-centimetre-high ceramic (clay and loess) figurine, the head of which may have been decorated with a mask. It was discovered in 1925 near Dolni Vestonice in Moravia, now the Czech Republic. It is attributed to the Gravettian people, a culture of early modern humans that lived in Europe between 28,000 and 23,000 years ago.
