The Metro Express will start commercial operations at the Curepipe Central Metro Station (CCMS) around the end of September or early October 2022 as significant progress has been made in the implementation of the project so far. The Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, made this statement, this afternoon, during a site visit at the CCMS in a bid to take stock of the progress of works. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Land Use Planning, Minister of Tourism, Mr Louis Steven Obeegadoo; the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Alan Ganoo; the Parliamentary Permanent Secretary, Mr Serge Gilbert Bablee; the Member of Parliament, Mr Soobeersingh Dhunoo; the Mayor of Curepipe, Mr Hans Berty Margueritte; the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Express Limited (Mauritius), Dr Das Mootanah; and other personalities were also present for the site visit. In a statement, Prime Minister Jugnauth expressed satisfaction with regards to progress made so far and emphasised that works at the CCMS are nearing completion. He indicated that the first Light Rail Vehicle will be effecting trial tests up to the CCMS as from 20 July 2022, and this exercise will span over some two months. Seven stations, observed the Prime Minister, are currently under construction and will be ready on time so that the Metro Express can be fully operational from Curepipe to Port Louis. He conceded that some issues cropped up during the implementation phase and seized this opportunity to commend every stakeholder for having dealt with them efficiently. Furthermore, he underlined that the vision of Government to modernise the country is being concretely evidenced through projects such as the Metro Express. He also reminded that providing a modern mode of transport to citizens forms part of Government’s vision and this contributes to enhance the quality of life of the population in general. In addition,
