During World War (1914-18), Germany issued thousands of different Notgeld (emergency notes) for towns, cities and even restaurants and police stations. Some very rare forms of Notgeld are those issued on-board the German warship Hindenburg, which was scuttled at Scapa Flow at the end of the war.
