Tongue examination. Woman patient has her tongue examined by a physician specialising in Chinese medicine. The physician has noted the patient's general condition on his charts (at lower centre) and is now examining her tongue. The tongue is thought, in Chinese medicine, to reveal much about a patient's health. Chinese medicine is based on the existance of a universal life force, Chi. Chi manifests itself in the body as two complementary forces: Yin and Yang which must be balanced to achieve good health. Chinese medicine physicians will prescribe a range of treatments including herbs, acupuncture, acupressure and t'ai chi. Photographed in Taiwan.
